Lasers have been used for many years for
a variety of cosmetic procedures. Hair
can be safely removed from the face, legs, arms, underarms, back
and bikini area. Today’s Alexandrite laser emits a gentle beam
of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle where
it is absorbed. The laser energy is transformed into heat, which
destroys the hair follicle leaving the surrounding skin unaffected.
The skin is further protected
by a cooling substance that is sprayed onto the skin just prior
to the laser firing, cooling the upper layers and providing the
patient with increased comfort. The number of treatments required
depends upon coarseness and color of the hair, as well as skin color
and type. Hair grows in cycles; therefore every patient will require
at least 3+ treatments, as the process is only effective on hair
during the early growing cycle. Sessions are scheduled at 6-week
intervals.
